Our Work

Neill Patani is an Honorary Associate Professor in the UCL Institute for Women’s Health and was a Postdoctoral Clinical Research Fellow in the Oncogenes and Tumour Metabolism Laboratory at the Francis Crick Institute. He served on the Academic and Research Committee for the Association of Breast Surgery.

He has an interest in laboratory, translational and clinical breast cancer research, working collaboratively with scientists, oncologists and radiologists, to explore how breast cancer metabolism can be targeted for functional imaging and novel therapies. Neill is currently involved in clinical trials studying the optimal sequencing of cancer treatments and the de-escalation of surgery according to treatment response.

He has undertaken a PhD at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research, studying response and resistance to endocrine therapy, including the development of biomarkers to personalise treatment. He received 1st Class Honours for his BSc in Tumour Biology at UCL, investigating the earliest genetic events in the multi-step model of breast cancer development.

Neill has been awarded prestigious grants and research funding from the Wolfson Foundation, Ludwig Institute, Cancer Research UK, Medical Research Council, Royal College of Surgeons of England, Francis Crick Institute and UCL Biomedical Research Centre.

Quality improvement in breast care is key to optimal outcomes and as Honorary Clinical Fellow for the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme, Neill held a national role in evaluating and learning from litigation in breast surgery. He has been selected to serve as the Breast Specialist Advisor for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman.
